Stars + Stripes Throw Quilt
Although I love having holiday and occasion appropriate décor around my house, I rarely ever getting around to making any. As soon as we got in American Legacy by Dani Mogstad, however, I knew that as going to change. The fabric line was just too beautiful not to use!
Almost instantly, I knew I was going to make a patriotic banner to hang outside of the house and a Stars and Stripes quilt. The pattern, Stars and Stripes, is by Camille Roskelly of Thimble Blossoms and it has been my first choice in flag quilts for awhile, if I ever got around to it! And now, I'm so grateful that I finally did!
Instead of following the pattern exactly, I chose to use a fat quarter bundle. The pattern calls for a white solid for the white stripes, but I love it with the white prints in the collection! It made arranging the blocks a little interesting, so that there weren't too many of the same print close together, but it's worth it!
In Camille's pattern, she uses an aqua solid for the sashing and borders. With this collection, though, aqua just didn't seem to fit. Instead, I used KONA Khaki and it really complements the deep colors and gives it a sort of vintage feel.
Of course, compliments to my husband for holding this quilt up wherever my whims take me. What would I do without him!
